WHAT IS AN ATMOS CLOCK ANYWAY?
Imagine a clock that you didn’t plug in, put a battery in or wind!!!
The Amazing Atmos Perpetual Motion Clock, beautiful, mystifying ATMOS runs silently, accurately and indefinitely—without winding, batteries or electricity of any kind. It is fully powered by the constant changes in the temperature of the air!!!
The movement has been manufactured with all the care and precision that have made LeCoultre timepieces world-famous. LeCoultre’s exquisite workmanship and advanced engineering has fashioned for you a clock that you will always be proud to own. The LeCoultre Factory is tucked away in the remote Swiss Valley of Joux. In 1833, Antoine LeCoultre, recognized as one of the great pioneering geniuses of watch-making, established a small factory in Switzerland.
This factory revolutionized the world’s watch and clock industry. Many people ask me to give a value to their Atmos clock. This is not an easy task. Many companies gave Atmos clocks to people as retirement gifts for long service…..thus many people are finding Atmos clocks in various conditions among the things of their family in an estate, etc. Here are some guidelines for people to expect realistic amounts and to understand that while there are some Atmos clocks which are very rare, many were made on a mass production basis and are thus very nice, but certainly not “priceless”.
There is a huge difference between the value of a working clock and a non-working one. Atmos clocks need to be serviced every 7-10 years and you can figure that most out there for sale have not been serviced of late, so be careful. So to maximize the value of your piece, have it serviced. Not all clock repair people work on Atmos clocks, we here at Albert’s are proud, as we do and have a very good working relationship with
LeCoultre and their parts department.
In General, If you have an Atmos clock with a serial number lower than 10,000 or most particularly lower than 5,000, you likely have a very early “Mercury” style Atmos which depending upon condition, etc., may be worth anywhere from $2,000—$40,000.00.
Atmos clocks with serial numbers between 10,000 and 25,000 are mainly from the earliest production runs. These are special clocks, but were made with mass production thus are typically worth about $1,500.00.
Atmos clocks with serial numbers between 25,000 and 300,000 were made in the 1950’s and 1960’s. This is what you find mostly floating around in general condition, perhaps running and sell used for $800-$1,000.
Very often their condition is poor and getting the clock fixed including the high cost of parts that may be needed to be replaced can perhaps cost up to the cost you paid for the clock itself.
Atmos clocks with the serial numbers between 300,000 and 550,000 are the 1970’s pieces, not unlike the 50’s and 60’s models with minor variations. Ones that are unique are worth typically $1,500.00.
In the early 80’s, the Atmos clock mechanism was radically changed. Typically an Atmos clock with a serial number over 600,000 is of the new type, also called a 540.
Buying new is always a great idea but if you buy used, unless they have been overhauled and repaired, the deal may not be as good as it first appears. Be careful buying an Atmos on e-bay or by someone who doesn’t service these type clocks, even if you see the clock running, it may be in need of a servicing or close to it. Only buy one that has been fully serviced!!!!!
ALBERT’S HAS FULLY SERVICED ATMOS CLOCKS FOR SALE!
We also service them so if you have an Atmos clock that needs to be serviced, give us a call (386) 673-4822 |
